Anthology Ideas

UnCONventional is in edits right now, and it's going to be SOOO good! It's already up for pre-order on Barnes & Noble, and will be available for pre-order from most major booksellers in the next month or two, well before we officially launch it in January at Arisia.

Theme anthologies are making a comeback, and we're already considering what to do for the next one.

This is where you come in.

Got any ideas for a theme you'd like to see? Now's your chance to put them out there. Some that I've been playing with are high schools where at least one person has a magical/supernatural/paranormal ability, The Paranormal Cookbook, in which each story would start with a recipe that tied into the action--feeding the hungry werewolf that showed up at the door or the alien baby that emerged from the pod that crashed in the cornfield, that sort of thing. If you'd like to be on the mailing list when we announce our next call for submissions, please put your email address in the SHP contact form.

And speaking of pre-orders, look what's up at Amazon!

Happy Monday!

Well, to be honest I'm not into anthologies very much, maybe I've read the wrong ones as the opinion I have of the genre is not good.
But I loved the idea of UnCONventional so much that I'm gonna read it. maybe it's because the "convention" theme is very close to me :)
As for the ideas, the one you mentioned is really cool. Maybe another cool theme might be "objects"? I mean, every story is focused on an object that has magic powers or is "special" or haunted... How does that sound?

I like the "objects" concept, Franny, particularly if people can come up with unique takes on it. Everyone's seen magic wands and possessed cars, but how about ghosts communicating through a Kindle?

I LOVE this idea. Of course I am kind of partial to ghosts themed books. :)

Ooh! I love the "objects" idea! You could go really crazy with it like the haunted kindle or maybe even zombie pencils!! They'll poke your eyes out. :) :P

By the way, can I just say that last bit of your post is the most beautiful thing ever? :D

I gotta say, having your first novel listed on Amazon--it's a very special moment. :)

Does that mean I might have a future as a writer as I have good ideas?
Kate, that kindle idea is really cool, that was exactly my point! The object in my mind yesterday when I was writing the comment was a knife... don't know where it came from, haha

Yay! I love anthologies. The ideas all sound fun. Or you could do a vacation theme about things NOT mentioned in the travel brochure (Killer mermaids at the beach) or a "true history" that explains why things are the way they are. (grand Canyon was created in a fey war)The possibilities are endless. :)

Book Addict, the vacation theme as you put it sounds so cool! I like the Grand Canyon being made because of a fey war :)

Two great ideas, Book Addict!

How about hospitals or clinics that have secrets or do things like treat aliens/fairy tale creatures or infect humans? Or a pets issue where the animals are the supernatural creatures? Or factory settings with their true products a secret (like Ford is a cover for making alien spaceships)? Or a holiday theme where the holidays are not what we thought they were? Or a famous places theme where the real history of the place is different than what we were taught?

Good ones, Kimmy!
