I Am a Proud Black Woman?

A few weeks ago, I started getting some magazines in the mail. Now, I don't have time to read magazines. I wish I did. But, considering this is me:

I'm a bit confused as to why I'm now receiving Ebony and Essence.

So, why am I on these mailing lists? No clue.  My best guess:

Now that Obama is President,
all Americans are now black.

So, what do you think?  Am I even allowed to blog about this? Would it be different if I were on a men's magazine list like GQ or something?

I'm still waiting for the magazine that truly represents my interests--and the interests of the rest of the 30-something, English/French/Scots/Polish/Cherokee community.  Which basically is this guy:

Actually, I probably wouldn't have time to read that, either.

For a while, me--the middle-aged, single, childless professional woman with no life due to the profession--was getting a zillion and one catalogs for children and toys. I think it was pre-think geek and my love of odd and amusing gifts might have caused this...but who knows?

But your current magazines are a bit of a puzzle.

I found your blog through Deniz, and I am thoroughly enjoying reading the novel pitches.
This post about the magazines got me thinking about magazines and subscriptions. I know that wasn't really the topic, but I'm an English woman, living in Turkey, and when I looked into the cost of subscriptions for English magazines, they were so expensive. I ended up subscribing to Oprah's magazine a couple of years ago simply because it was a fraction of the cost of mags from the UK.

Because Oprah always appears on the cover, I do get some strange looks when I collect it from the Post Office. I think they wonder why this white woman would be reading a magazine that appears to be aimed at black women (although of course the content appeals to everyone)

Until I saw your post, I hadn't actually realised that there were specific magazines for black women. I wonder what the reaction would be if someone produced a magazine specifically aimed at white women? Would they be accused of racial discrimination? Hmmm...
