Ooh--there's a new review for MINDER over at Books Complete Me. They just posted a giveaway and interview today, so stop on by and comment for a chance to win MINDER SWAG.
Do you have any books or authors that work as "comfort food" for your mind? I find that what I'm reading flavors my life--like I'm looking at the world through book-colored glasses, and I tend to grab for "word chocolate" when I'm feeling down or stressed.
I personally recommend authors Rita Mae Brown, J.K Rowling, Douglas Adams, Stephenie Meyer, Kim Stanley Robinson, Connie Willis, and Orson Scott Card for this, as well as Charlotte Bronte. I think Lisa McMann may eventually join this group--I really liked the WAKE trilogy, and her new book CRYER'S CROSS comes out in February.
So, what's in your literary cookie jar? Which books or authors make you feel better when you read them?

Mmmm...word chocolate.
I would have to say that J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer and Jane Austin are my word chocolate!
Diana Gabaldon is my fall-back friend. Her Outlander series fits nicely in my cookie jar. Anytime I'm feeling down or just need to settle my mind I can always go back in time, to Scotland and hang out with Jaime and Claire.
Terry Pratchett and Tanya Huff are mine.
Coley, we have so much in common! Great picks!
Leah, I have the Outlander books in my to-read pile. I'm looking forward to getting into them once I have the first draft of book 5 done.
Fairyhedgehog--thanks for reminding my of Terry Pratchett! I haven't read anything of his in a while--I think I may have to hunt them down again!
Book 5?!!!Happy dancin' here! So glad I won't have to let go of the mc any time soon!
Books one and two of Outlander are unbelievably good (although a little graphic). There's a split second moment in book two that stayed with me all these years...
"I KNOW what you're thinking"
I'm envious. I am longing for the day when I have time to read anything other than children's literature! Hugs..
Thanks for Vicki showing off your awesome blog! I love that you call yourself the disgruntled bear that so cute!!!
My literary cookie jar (first off too cute) and my author choices would have to be J.K. Rowling & Susan Elizabeth Phillips, two different genres but always make the world a better place!
Also.... "I KNOW what you're thinking"
you have a great list of word chocolate authors! i'd add little women and the secret garden to the list... so comforting!
and btw,
I KNOW what you're thinking.
'I know what you're thinking' - popping over from MissV's blog. I also have been meaning to let you know that you won an award on my blog last week!
I KNOW what you're thinking. ;) Found you at Vicki's blog
And L.M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, and Lloyd Alexander all fall into that category for me.
I'm over here from Vicki's blog and entering her I Know What your thinking contest! How awesome of her to support you this way and help promote your book! And I get to discover a new author blog!! Win win for everyone, even if I don't win your amazing book!
Inspiring author? Jane Austen every time. I'm currently reading Emma which I believe is her best work and enjoying every moment of it.
Thanks for posting, everyone! Leah, yup, I'm making notes for book 5 while doing the revisions on book 4. 1 and 2 are done, and 3's out to my beta readers.
